Of the early translational languages of the New Testament, none is more important than Syriac. A working knowledge of Syriac provides a lens from which to study early translations of the Greek New Testament, the Peshitta (the Syriac translation of the full Bible), and various early church history texts and commentaries.
The Basics of Classical Syriac course is thus useful for students across a range of disciplines. It includes video lectures, instruction on vocabulary and grammar, learning exercises, and assessments, providing an ideal first step into this ancient language. With its focus on getting into text translation as quickly as possible, the course is useful for formal students and independent learners alike.
By completing this course, you’ll gain
familiarity with the basic grammar and verb forms of classical Syriac
an introductory grasp of classical Syriac vocabulary
experience in using the grammar and vocabulary learned in actual translation
confidence in your growing knowledge through unit assessments and personalized review sessions that include award-winning memory building tools
