Course Description
Ministry is a calling.
No matter your role—paid or volunteer, up front or behind the scenes—it’s vital work. And it’s hard work.
This track is designed for anyone who works in a church. Whether you’re on staff or a volunteer, the courses in this track will equip you to do the work you do—better. You’ll get an introduction to the sound biblical principles that undergird effective preaching and counseling. You’ll get practical guidance on small groups and evangelism. And you’ll get basic, nuts-and-bolts help for become a more effective leader—for using your time well and making better decisions.
This track is ideal for those who have had formal seminary classes but need a refresher; for those on staff looking for extra training; and for volunteers who desire to be better equipped.

J. Scott Duvall
Ph.D. Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
J. Scott Duvall is professor of New Testament at Ouachita Baptist University. He has coauthored several books, including Biblical Greek Exegesis: A Graded Approach to Learning Intermediate and Advanced Greek; Grasping God’s Word; Preaching God's Word; and Journey into God’s Word.
J. Daniel Hays
Th.M., Dallas Theological Seminary; Ph.D., Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
J. Daniel Hays is dean of the Pruet School of Christian Studies and professor of Old Testament at Ouachita Baptist University. He is the author of From Every People and Nation, and he has coauthored Grasping God's Word; Preaching God's Word; Journey into God’s Word; The Story of Israel: A Biblical Theology; Iraq: Babylon of the End Times?; Apocalypse; and The Dictionary of Biblical Prophecy. He teaches adult Sunday school at his local church in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and preaches frequently throughout the nation.
Kevin Harney
B.A., Azusa Pacific University; M.Div., Fuller Theological Seminary; D.Min., Western Theological Seminary
Kevin does extensive speaking and training on topics such as mobilizing churches for effective outreach, leadership, and balancing the challenges of ministry and marriage (in partnership with his wife, Sherry). He seeks to help believers grow to love God with greater passion and reach out to the world with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. His books include Leadership from the Inside Out: Examining the Inner Life of a Healthy Church Leader; Seismic Shifts: The Little Changes That Make a Big Difference in Your Life; Finding a Church You Can Love and Loving the Church You've Found; Organic Outreach for Ordinary People; and more than sixty small-group Bible studies.
Terry G. Carter
PhD, Southwesterrn Baptist Theological Seminary
Terry G. Carter is chair of the department of Christian ministries and holder of the W.O. Vaught Chair in the Pruet School of Christian Studies at Ouachita Baptist University. He teaches homiletics, pastoral ministry, Christian history, evangelism and church growth, missions, and survey of the Bible. He is author of The Journal and Selected Letters of William Carey.
Heath Lambert
PhD., The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
Heath Lambert is the senior pastor at First Baptist Church Jacksonville, Florida. He is the author of The Biblical Counseling Movement After Adams (Crossway, 2011), coeditor of Counseling the Hard Cases: True Stories Illustrating the Sufficiency of God's Resources in Scripture (B&H, 2012), author of Finally Free: Fighting for Purity with the Power of Grace (Zondervan, 2013), coauthor of Transforming Homosexuality: What the Bible Says about Sexual Orientation and Change (P&R, 2015), and author of A Theology of Biblical Counseling: The Doctrinal Foundation of Counseling Ministry (Zondervan, 2016). He is married to Lauren, and is the father of Carson, Chloe, and Connor.
Bill Donahue
Ph.D., University of North Texas
Dr. Bill Donahue is the author of the bestselling Leading Life-Changing Small Groups, Building a Life-Changing Small Groups Ministry (with Russ Robinson), Coaching Life-Changing Leaders (with Greg Bowman), and the Equipping Life-Changing Leaders DVD.
After working with Procter & Gamble and PNC Financial Corp., he launched a leadership development practice, and then took that expertise to the Willow Creek Association & Church for 18 years. In addition, he has worked with Fortune 100 businesses, non-profits, large churches, and other organizations seeking accelerated leadership development.
Bill’s research and writing focuses on helping leaders like you to become transformational leaders, build great teams and launch life-changing groups. He is Director of Professional Doctoral Programs at Trinity International University, teaching courses in leadership, team-building, organizational communication and group dynamics.
Sam Chan
Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; MD, University of Sydney
Sam Chan is a public evangelist with City Bible Forum in Sydney, Australia where he regularly shares the gospel with high school students, city workers, doctors, and lawyers. He speaks at conferences around the world on the topics of ethics, story-telling, apologetics, and the practice of evangelism in a post-Christian culture.
Clay Scroggins is the lead pastor of North Point Community Church, providing visionary and directional leadership for all of the local church staff and congregation.
As the original and largest campus of North Point Ministries, ranked by Outreach Magazine in 2014 as the Largest Church in America, NPCC averages over 12,000 people in attendance. Clay works for Andy Stanley, one of the greatest leaders on the planet, and understands firsthand how to manage the tension of leading when you’re not in charge.
Starting out as a facilities intern (a.k.a. Vice-President of Nothing), he has worked his way through many organizational levels of North Point Ministries and know all too well the challenge of authority deprivation. Clay holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech as well as a Master’s degree and doctorate with an emphasis in Online Church from Dallas Theological Seminary. He lives in Forsyth County, Georgia, with his wife, Jenny, and their four children.
Matt Perman is the director of career development at The King’s College NYC and co-founder of What’s Best Next, an organization that helps empower Christians to be more productive in all areas of life. Previously, he served as director of marketing at Made to Flourish and was director of strategy at Desiring God for thirteen years. He is the author of What's Best Next: How the Gospel Transforms the Way You Get Things Done (Zondervan, 2014).
Matt has an MDiv in biblical and theological studies from Southern Seminary and a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute. Matt is a frequent speaker on the topics of leadership and productivity from a God-centered perspective and also consults with businesses and non-profits, focusing on startups devoted to solving large global problems. Alan Ehler
DMin, George Fox Evangelical Seminary
Alan Ehler is a professor and dean of Barnett College of Ministry and Theology at Southeastern University. A former pastor and ordained minister with the Assemblies of God, he is a lifelong student of the science of decision-making.
