Greek

  • Recognize and understand basic Hebrew syntax
  • Build a vocabulary of 300 words in biblical Hebrew
  • Master Hebrew infinitives and participles
  • Begin to use a working knowledge of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary in exegesis of the Old Testament
Aramaic
  • Learn the Aramaic alphabet
  • Be able to read all 269 verses of Aramaic in the Old Testament
  • Understand Aramaic nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and other parts of speech
  • Acquire a basic familiarity with Aramaic verb forms
Ugaritic
  • Learn the Ugaritic alphabet
  • Gain foundational knowledge of Ugaritic nouns, prepositions, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and other parts of speech
  • Acquire a basic familiarity with Ugaritic verb forms

How to earn the Certificate

  1. Achieve an 80% or higher grade in each of the eight required courses.
  2. Complete all coursework within 36 months of enrolling.

William D. Mounce

William D Mounce lives as a writer in Washougal, Washington. He is the President of BiblicalTraining.org, a non-profit organization offering world-class educational resources for discipleship in the local church. See www.BillMounce.com for more information. Formerly he was a preaching pastor, and prior to that a professor of New Testament and director of the Greek Program at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He is the author of the bestselling Greek textbook, Basics of Biblical Greek, and many other resources. He was the New Testament chair of the English Standard Version translation of the Bible, and is serving on the NIV translation committee.

Miles V. Van Pelt

Miles V. Van Pelt is the Alan Belcher Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Languages, Director of Summer Institute for Biblical Languages, and Academic Dean at Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi.

Gary D. Pratico

Gary D. Pratico is professor of Old Testament and director of the Hebrew language program at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He has been teaching Hebrew for nearly thirty years. 

Michael Williams

Michael Williams (PhD, University of Pennsylvania) is Professor of Old Testament at Calvin Theological Seminary and a member of the NIV Committee on Bible Translation. He is the author of Deception in Genesis, The Prophet and His Message, Basics of Ancient Ugaritic, and How to Read the Bible through the Jesus Lens, and editor and contributor of Mishneh Todah. His passion is to equip students with knowledge of the Old Testament and its languages so that they may grow in their comprehension and appreciation of redemptive history and be adequately prepared to promote and defend the faith through word and action. Michael resides in Grand Rapids, MI, with his wife, Dawn.

Daniel B. Wallace

PhD, Dallas Theological Seminary

Daniel B. Wallace is Senior Professor of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary (he has taught there for more than 28 years) and Executive Director of the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts. He earned a B.A. at Biola University (1975) with a major in biblical studies and minor in Greek; graduated magna cum laude from Dallas Seminary with a ThM degree (1979), with the equivalent of a major in Old Testament studies and a double major in New Testament Studies; graduated summa cum laude from Dallas Seminary with a PhD in New Testament studies (1995). He has done postdoctoral study at Tyndale House, Christ’s College, Clare College, and Westminster College, Cambridge; the Institut für neutestamentliche Textforschung (Institute for New Testament Textual Research), Münster, Germany, Tübingen University; Glasgow University; Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (Bavarian State Library), Munich; as well as various libraries and monasteries in Europe, Australia, America, and Africa.

 

He has written, co-authored, edited, or contributed to more than two dozen books, including Greek Grammar beyond the Basics, Basics of New Testament Syntax, and (with Grant Edwards) of A Workbook for New Testament Syntax. He has been finalist in the Gold Medallion Award for two books in different categories and an award for the best article in New Testament in Christianity Today’s fourth annual volume of Best in Theology (1990), and the Evangelical Press Association’s award for the best critical book review of the year (2012). Wallace has published in more journals than any faculty member in Dallas Seminary’s history.

Constantine R. Campbell

Constantine R. Campbell is Professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is the author of several books, including Basics of Verbal Aspect in Biblical Greek, Advances in the Study of Greek: New Insights for Reading the New Testament, Paul and Union with Christ; Verbal Aspect, the Indicative Mood, and Narrative; and Outreach and the Artist. Dr. Campbell is a preacher, musician, and author, and lives in Chicago.
