Course Description

It’s no secret that the center of Christianity has shifted from the West to the global South and East. While the truths of the Christian faith are universal, new contexts bring new questions, new understandings, and new expressions. What does this mean for theology? Is the Christian faith not only culturally translatable, but also theologically translatable? In this Theology in the Context of World Christianity course, seminary president and missionary Timothy Tennent answers this question with a resounding yes.

Theological reflection is alive and well in the majority world church, and these new perspectives need to be heard, considered, and brought into conversation with Western theologians. Global theology can make us aware of our own blind spots and biases. Largely conservative in its stance, global theology has much to offer toward the revitalization of Western Christianity. This Theology in the Context of World Christianity course examines traditional theological concepts in different contexts from across the globe, making it a valuable introduction for formal students and lay students alike.

By completing this course, you’ll gain

  • A thorough overview of what it means to face the truth that theology is a cross-cultural team game with global players
  • Greater understanding of how Christianity theology centers are shifting and changing in the twenty-first century
  • Insight into how we can approach systematic theology in a cultural, relevant, and exciting context
  • Confidence in your growing knowledge through personalized review sessions and unit assessments
